SUMMER 2016: it's summertime

Team Bravien would like to wish you all a wonderful festive season and an easy wind down to 2016. The year itself, by all accounts, has been "mental". We were in November before we knew it and with all the legislative changes coming for Centrelink on 1 January 2017, followed by super and retirement savings changes on 1 July 2017, the first half of 2017 is going to be equally bonkers!

We hope you can relax, share time with family and friends, and reflect on all of your achievements! You can read about the 2016 Bravien Team highlights below.

One thing really stood out this year - and from your feedback it clearly resonated with you too. It's something we said on the eve of the Trump election: "We believe in worrying about the things you can control. Love your family, follow your passions, earn to your potential, manage your tax, pay off your debts, and spend your money on the things that truly matter to you. The markets will always just be the markets. They go up and they go down...and they go up more than they go down." This belief is the absolute methodology we bring to our advice and your journey with Bravien.

We warmly welcome our new clients and express our deep gratitude to the many ongoing clients who continue to introduce their colleagues, friends and family members to Bravien. We really do feel like a big family.

From all of us here at Bravien we wish you a fun, safe, loving and very Merry Christmas, followed by a joyous and prosperous 2017.

2016 Team Bravien Highlights

Sometimes it's hard to remember everything you've packed into a year. Christmas is a great time to sit back, reflect and celebrate the wins. A Reverse Bucket List is a great tool we use with clients all the time to help them commemorate their achievements, milestones and happy times. It really does make you appreciate how hard you've worked for the good times and provides an opportunity to consider that, notwithstanding the tougher times, life really is pretty darn good.

  • We attended the annual advisers conference in Adelaide where Shaun Akroyd was named in the Top3 Nationally for New Financial Adviser of the Year.
  • We had a fantastic off-site team development event in the Blue Mountains. We covered the usual training and business planning but the activity that really hit home was the lesson on overcoming fear and personal adversity. Team Bravien abseiled (many for the first time) down a 6 pitch, 250m+ drop which really got the heart racing and resulted in many a satisfied high five at the bottom! Hanging 200m above a rocky earth on an 8mm rope really helped clear the mind for particular focus!

  • We welcomed back James Plowman, the face of Bravien, from 6 months snowboarding in Canada. He's a fantastic asset to the welcoming feeling at Bravien. And his snowboarding tricks have improved out of sight!!

  • Shaun completed his studies in the Fellow Chartered Financial Practitioner (FChFP) - a huge achievement and the highest level of study offered by the Association of Financial Advisers. There is no doubt he has developed as the course outlines promises: "A successful adviser combines technical expertise, excellent communication skills and business acumen".
  • We expanded our Bravien in the Community Program, offering even more clients in need free financial advice through the Cancer Council Pro Bono initiative. We love this service and helping clients when they really need it most. We also developed a joint sponsorship with the Canberra Cycling Club to build the junior program and offer the largest ever prize pool for Wednesday night summer criterium racing.

  • Bravien Financial Canberra had a big renovation and refresh - which is always a tricky proposition when the team is still working full time. The results are a much more dynamic, light and collaborative work space.

We’re excited about taking such an awesome team and work environment into 2017 and we all look forward to working with you to achieve your happy.
